Old church in the village of Petayavesi

Vanhankirkontie 9, 41900 Petä jä vesi, Finland

Description:

The Old Church in Petyavesi is a wooden Lutheran church of the middle of the XVIII century, a bright and valuable example of East Scandinavian architecture. In the log church there is clearly a mixture of architectural styles of the Renaissance, Gothic and traditional local architecture.

Of particular interest is the interior decoration of the church, made entirely by local masters: carved pulpit, chandeliers, benches and much more. In the 30s of the last century, restoration works on local traditional technologies were carried out in the church.

Nowadays, the temple is open to tourists, and religious services are also held here from time to time. UNESCO World Heritage Monument.
