Senank Monastery
Monastè re cistercien, 84220 Gordes, France
Description:
Senank Abbey, located in Gorda at the foot of the Luberon mountain range, is part of the whole monastery complex, which is called the "three sisters of Provence". The complex also includes Silvacan Abbey and Torone Abbey.
The history of Senank Abbey dates back to 1148. The name comes from the small Senancol River running from the Vaucluse Mountains. This abbey is one of the oldest in France.
During the visit, tourists can admire the magnificent architecture of the Cistercians, erecting all their buildings from stone, the extraction of which is carried out in the nearest district.
The transition from one building to another passes through long stone corridors, during which only the knock of steps will break the strict silent silence of the powerful monastery walls. But this severity seems to evaporate during the flowering of lavender, when the monastery is literally transformed and an amazing panorama opens before the eyes - gray stone walls surrounded by beautiful lilac-blue flowers.
