Floods usually occur on the Mosely from November to March.
On the river are the following large settlements: Trier, Koblenz, Metz and Nancy.
The Moselle River is almost entirely navigable.
Several locks and hydroelectric power stations were built on the river. The reservoir is crossed by the Rhine-Marne canal, and also has a connection by the eastern channel with the Sonna River.
The Moselle Valley is considered a place of winemaking. It is the oldest wine district in France. Most of the products made here are exported.
