Description:

Among the numerous architectural monuments of Metz, one of the most famous are the Great and Middle Bridges of the Dead, connecting the island of Solsi with the central districts of the city. The Middle Bridge of the Dead is often referred to simply as the Middle Bridge, simply because it is shorter. It is actually an extension of the Great Bridge from which it derives its name.

The Great Bridge is much older than the Middle Bridge, until the end of the XIII century it was wooden, until in 1282 it was decided to build a stone bridge. By 1343, its construction had already been completed. In 1312 construction of the Middle Bridge began. Nowadays, bridges are very popular with travelers, their inspection is a mandatory part of a visit to Metz.
