St. Bernard Museum and walk with them around the mountain lake Champay and the Martini vineyards
Description:
Museum of St. Bernards, rescue dogs, and a walk with them around the mountain lake Champay or the Martini vineyards. In the 11th century, the wandering monk Bernard, from Menton, stopped at a mountain pass, founded a monastery here and a shelter for travelers. The first dog nursery was founded here, named after the monastery. Together with the dogs, who also carried out guard duty, the monks went out in search of people who fell under avalanches, and the St. Bernards, thanks to their sense of smell, fearlessness and natural instinct, saved people, led them out of the avalanches, often risking their own lives. As a rule, the dogs worked in a pair: one dog ran for help, and the second, equipped with a barrel of rum attached to the neck, remained with the wounded. The most famous dog was Barry, who lived in the 19th century, on account of which there were 40 saved human lives.
But the most important of their talents of these cute furry wools is to give joy and good mood to adult children. That is why the famous nursery "Fondation Barry" invites you to take a 1.5-hour walk with their pets, along the picturesque shore of the mountain lake or Martini vineyards.
In winter, children under 10 years old are given a place in sleds harnessed by St. Bernards.
If you love animals, then you will be interested to visit the Museum of St. Bernards and learn the history of the origin and "career stages" of dogs of this breed, famous rescuers of travelers who suffered disaster in the mountains. Not only are these legendary dogs adorable and intelligent, they are a symbol of Switzerland’s Gran Saint Bernard region.
The history of their origin goes back to ancient times, to the East, from where their ancestors were brought to Greece, from there to the Roman Empire, and further to Europe.
