Car sightseeing tour of Berlin
Description:
A car tour will allow you to see much more than a walking tour. You can visit places outside the historic center. Also, do not depend on the weather or fatigue. If desired, you can not leave the car at all. The tour will start at the doorstep of your hotel or right at the airport if you book such a start. Routes from 3 hours to the whole day are possible.
Here I will tell you only what is not included in Berlin Pedestrian. Everything included in walking tours is included in the road route automatically. So...
We get in the car, we meet, and I make a short story about Berlin. If we start in the west of Berlin, I usually start at Charlottenburg Palace. (If it is in the east, it is in the opposite direction.) This palace was built by the first Prussian King Frederick I for his wife, Sophia-Charlotte of Brandenburg, one of the most extraordinary women in history. The palace and park are literally filled with stories and legends. It was here that the famous amber room first appeared. Here she was presented as a gift to Peter the Great, after which she left for Russia. It was the residence of Frederick the Great while he was building San Soussi. Queen Louise, the “Prussian Madonna”, is buried here, the beauty of which was admired by both kings and artists. Here we can find out how the goddess of fortune treats you. Unless, of course, you already know that.
After that, we will drive down the alley on June 17. It was part of Hitler’s ambitious plan to rebuild Berlin, and preserved Speer’s famous lanterns. We will pass through the Charlottenburg Gate, see the Berlin Royal Porcelain Factory, and stop at the Victory Column. It was erected in honor of the three great Prussian victories, and it decorated the square in front of the Reichstag. Hitler brought it here and "increased" another section. I'll tell you why he did it. Here was a monument to the “grand chancellor” Bismarck and his associates. Let's pay our respects and drive to downtown West Berlin.
We will drive along the main avenue of the Western part of the city - Kurfustendamm Boulevard, see the quarter of the most expensive shops of the city and stop near the legendary "Europe Center" - the "mecca" of Soviet tourists. It is here that the hero of the film "Mimino" buys a green crocodile and calls Telavi, getting to Tel Aviv. Nearby is the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. It was deliberately left destroyed after the war as a reminder to future generations that war must not be repeated. Behind the church is the famous Berlin Zoo.
Let’s go further east and see the dancing macaroni. What is it? I'll tell you. And now KadeVe is the second largest (and first most famous) department store in Europe with a retail area of 60 thousand square meters. Driving along the embankment of the Spree River, we will see the West Berlin Culture Forum. Once an insurmountable wall cut it off from Potsdamer Square, and now just one turn and we're here. The dome, repeating the shape of the top of Fuji, the famous “Sony Center”, the first in Berlin traffic lights of unusual shape, apartments suspended above the ground, six slabs of the Berlin wall and stunning history – that is what this square is.
Ahead is part of the walking route. You can read about it in the description of the tour “Berlin pedestrian”.
After Alexanderplatz, we will look at the New Synagogue. The magnificent gold-domed building was the only one to survive Kristallnacht. He was saved from the Nazis by a German policeman who did his duty. Not far from here is the oldest restaurant in Berlin. Those who still remember Stirlitz will be curious that it was here that he dined with Pastor Schlag. And everyone else will be interested to know that Napoleon, Alexander I, Reagan and Gorbachev dined here.
Then we go to East Berlin. Among the "Khrushchevka" and "Brezhnevok" familiar to us, modern new buildings have grown here, and among them is the "Alexa" store, popular among Berliners. We will drive to the East Side Gallery - the longest in the world (1,316 meters) open-air gallery. This is a painted piece of the Berlin Wall. Immediately behind it - an unusual Oberbaumbrücke - "Bridge of the Upper Tree", famous for its beauty, and in the "times of the wall" became a checkpoint between "East" and "West". On the contrary, O2-World is a new concert and sports arena in Berlin with 17,000 seats, an example of new Berlin architecture.
Crossing the Spree, we will see the "Molecular Man" - a symbol of the unification of two districts of Berlin, once separated by a wall. And beyond the river, we are waiting for Treptov Park and the famous monument to the “Warrior – Liberator” with a German girl in her arms. We all know it from photos, but we don’t know much about the true history of its creation. But that's why you have me.
In conclusion, we will go to the memorial on the Bernauerstrasse. This is the only place where the original piece of the Berlin wall with the rifle tower has been preserved intact. The most dramatic escape attempts from East Berlin to West Berlin took place here. Here they jumped from the windows of the 4th floor, dug tunnels and just tried to climb over the wall. Here, for the sake of expanding the wall, a magnificent church was blown up and part of an ancient cemetery was buried. You and I will see a lot of interesting things.
This is where the “cognitive part” of our route ends. Here's your wish. Shopping? Restaurant? Airport? Or something else?
Berlin is an extremely interesting city. You will see that when we meet you.
