Berlin twentieth century
Description:
During the twentieth century, Berlin had so many events that they could make up the history of an entire country: the decline of prosperous Bismarck Germany and the First World War, the democratic revolution and the Golden Twenties, the rise of the European film industry and the Bauhaus, inflation, the fire of the Reichstag, the rise of Hitler to power and the Third Reich, the street battles of 1945 and the signing of Germany’s unconditional surrender, the Potsdam Conference and the construction of the Berlin Wall, two “parallel universes” within the same city, the peaceful revolution and the fall of the wall in 1989.
The history of the twentieth century like an iron walked through Berlin, crushing lovingly built houses of cards of human destinies. Perhaps in no other city in Europe is the latest history perceived so clearly, relevant and instructive. The value of history in the “Berlin presentation” lies in the fact that it is really alive, because it was created and is being created before our eyes. Let us walk along the cobblestone pavements under which the bunkers of the Third Reich to this day coexist with the passages dug in the era of divided Germany and on which the past is imperceptibly replaced by the future.
