Cafe Moscow in Berlin

Karl-Marx-Allee 34, Berlin, Germany

About the company:

Cafe Moscow is one of the formerly functioning nationalized organizations of the GDR, which represented a chain of national restaurants in Berlin, but were closed after the reunification of Germany. Cafe "Moscow" in 2007 was acquired by the new owner Nicholas Bergggruen and operates to this day. The building is considered one of the most popular restaurants in Berlin.

The cafe was built in 1961-1964 under the direction of architects Josef Kaiser and Horst Brouwer. The facade of the building is decorated with yellow ceramic tiles, and at the entrance there is a mosaic of artist Bert Geller 9 by 15 meters in size called “From the Life of the Peoples of the USSR”. At the opening of the restaurant, the Embassy of the USSR made a gift in the form of a life-size satellite, which was installed on the roof of the building.

On the ground floor there is a gallery, "Russian Salon", "Ukrainian Salon", "Stone Bar" with a winter garden and "Buffet Natasha". On the second floor there is the lobby of the bar, Salon Riga, Salon Kavkaz, and Salon Moscow. In the basement there is a night bar, and the walls of the whole room are decorated with wooden plating and porcelain of Meissen.
