Bellevue Palace

Spreeweg 1, Berlin, Germany

Description:

Bellevue Palace is the residence of the Federal President of Germany, located in the northern part of Tiergarten Park, on the banks of the Spree River in Berlin. The palace was built in 1786 by the famous architect Michael Philip Bowman. The strictness of the architecture of the palace of the XVIII century is striking. The building is quite simple and classic, there are no unnecessary patterns or details. However, it makes a strong impression due to its greatness.

It was originally planned that the palace would serve as the summer residence of the younger brother of the Prussian King Frederick II, Prince Augustus Ferdinand. At different times, the politician Wilhelm von Humboldt, the writer Friedrich Schiller, the famous conqueror Napoleon Bonaparte visited here.

In 1791, sketches of the interior decoration of the palace were made, thanks to them, after the palace was partially destroyed during the Second World War, it was completely restored. Since 1959, the offices of the ministers of the federal states of Germany have been located here.

Since Bellevue Palace is still the residence of the President, it is almost impossible to get into it. Tourists admire them only from afar.
