Berlin

Red Town Hall

Description:

Rotes Rathaus is a historic building in the center of Berlin, so named for its red brick facade.

Built in 1861-1869 in the style of semi-renaissance, semi-Gothic by architect G. F. Wezeman. The height of the quadrangular tower of the town hall, built in the image and likeness of the towers of the Lansky Cathedral, is 74 meters.

During World War II, the building was rebuilt in 1951-1958 with changes in the interior. On the first floor are the Arms and Column halls, which perform representative functions.

After the restoration, the East Berlin Magistrate of the GDR was located in the Red Town Hall.

Since October 1, 1991, the seat of the government (Senate) of the united state of Berlin is located here. Here is the workplace of the mayor of the city.
