Grand Garden

Hanover, Herrhausen.

Description:

The Grand Garden, located southeast of the city center and connected with it by a landmark civil meadow, is the largest and most beautiful park of the city.

In 1676, the later Elector Johann George III ordered a representative garden in front of the city gates. In 1683 the palace was built in the early Baroque style. The park and the palace became the arena of representativeness of the Elector.

Today the Big Garden with its huge squares is one of the most favorite places of rest of Dresden residents. Several outdoor scenes are invited to cultural events, concerts are held in the palace, and from time to time the park becomes a stage for festive balls and fireworks.

On the edge of the Great Garden are the Botanical Garden and the Zoological Garden, which are also places of large crowds of people. The Park Railway, a miniature road that has existed since 1950, offers a sightseeing tour of the Grand Garden several kilometers long.
