Monument to the Lantern in Berlin
Choriner Strase 39, Berlin, Germany
Description:
The Lantern Monument is located in Berlin, Germany. It was created in honor of the long-forgotten profession of a lamplighter. It is made of bronze in the form of a man lighting an old lantern. In the hands of the figure is a special elongated stick, which allows the hard worker to reach the lantern. There should have been a wick at its end, but it is missing. The unusual sculpture attracts the eyes of many tourists, because it is the only statue in Germany dedicated to the lamplighter.
The exhibit is considered one of the most amazing monuments in the world and falls into the rubric "Monuments to disappeared professions" along with monuments to the photographer, chimney sweep, shoe cleaner and so on.
