Sculpture "Molecular Man"
Description:
Molecular man, made of metal, is installed on the Spree River in the eastern part of the German capital. This composition was created by American artist Jonathan Borofsky in 1999.
The sculptural composition consists of three male silhouettes, which symbolize the three German districts: Treptov, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. Each figure reaches a height of 30 meters, and the total weight is 45 tons.
The sculpture is called “molecular” because it consists of round holes resembling molecules. The idea of the sculpture was to show the unity of man and molecule, integrity and unity in the world.
The installation of the sculpture was sponsored by Allianz SE, whose main office is located near Treptowers.
