Friedrichstrasse Street
Friedrichstrasse, 10117 Berlin, Germany 26 m
Description:
Friedrichstrasse is the Berlin version of Fifth Avenue, Oxford Street and the Champs-Elysees. It is the bustling artery of the city, where culture, history, entertainment and fashion intersect. Before the Berlin Wall fell, the southern part of Friedrichstrasse belonged to West Berlin, and the northern part belonged to East Berlin.
From Meringplatz Square, this 3 km long street leads to the very center of Berlin.
Historically, the area surrounding the Stadtmitte metro station was the best shopping area of the city until the bombing during the war left its mark.
The modern shopping area is now concentrated near the metro station "Franzoziesche Strasse". In this shopping area are the chic galleries of Lafayette, block 206 and the beautiful shopping center Friedrichstadtpassagen. These buildings are called the three newest architectural wonders of Berlin.
The north side of the street will lead you to the city of theaters. Since the 19th century, it has attracted avid theatergoers. It houses the Friedrichstadtpalast, the German and Chamber Theatres and the Berlin Philharmonic.
