Kurfürstendamm Street

Berlin, Germany

Description:

Kurfürstendamm is the famous Berlin street, which is 3.5 km long. It is known as a wonderful place for shopping, walking and entertainment, and is also one of the main highways of Berlin’s Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district.

The hiking trail along which the electors rode to the hunting castle from the Berlin City Palace of Grunevald appeared here in 1542. The earliest mention of this road dates back to this year. By order of the government in 1767, a new width of Kurfürstendamm was established - 53 m, and in 1886, construction work was carried out here and a boulevard was erected.

During World War II, an air attack left only 43 houses out of 70. The restoration of the street occurred during the Cold War, and Kurfürstendamm became a magnificent showcase of the West and a symbol of economic miracle. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the street somewhat lost its importance, the city center was shifted to the Berlin-Mitte district.
