Museum Island: Old museum
About the company:
The Old Museum presents its collection of ancient art of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. The museum is housed in a neoclassical building built in 1830 by Karl Friedrich Schinkel to house the art collection of the family of Prussian kings. After the restoration in 1966, the museum has a permanent exhibition, which presents objects of ancient art.
The building was built on the model of Stoa, located in Athens. The Ionic order adorns the columns of the main facade of the building, and the other three facades are made of brick and stone. The building rises on a pedestal, which gives it an impressive appearance. To the main entrance of the museum is a staircase decorated on both sides with equestrian statues by Albert Wolf, statues of “Fighter with the Lion” and “Fighting Amazon”. In the center, in front of the stairs, there is a granite vase by Christian Gottlieb Kantian.
