Berlin Central Station

Description:

Berlin Central Station is the largest railway station not only in Germany, but also in Europe. This station started functioning in May 2006.

The central station was built on the site of the former Lert station, destroyed during the Second World War. The building permit was approved in 1992 and started in October 1995.

The construction of the architect Meinhard von Gerkan looks like a multi-level building in which 14 rail lines for various purposes are crossed. More than 164 high-speed long-distance trains, slightly more than 300 regional trains and about 600 municipal and suburban trains pass through the station every day. Directly in the station building on 3 floors with a total area of 15,000 square meters there are dozens of eateries and shops.

Before the opening of the Central Station in Berlin, there were several stations at once, but each of them was assigned to a specific direction. Today, Central Station meets trains from anywhere in Germany and Europe as a whole.
