Meissen is the cradle of Saxony
Description:
Approaching the city, from afar you can see a beautiful architectural ensemble towering on top of a steep hill - the castle-palace of Albrechtsburg (Albrechtsburg) and the Gothic cathedral of the XIII century. It is from this place that Maisen leads his story. On this hill in the tenth century, the first German king Henry I announced his protection of these lands.
The special microclimate of the valley of the Elbe River, flowing through the city, makes it possible from time immemorial (since the XII century) to grow grapes on the city and surrounding hills, from which dry white wines are made. During the tour you can not only buy unique wines that are famous throughout Germany, especially the famous Goldriesling, but also taste them. You will learn (and maybe even try) about the famous Meissen fummel - the miracle of baking art.
The Church of Our Lady and the City Hall, located on the central market square, will become sightseeing objects worthy of your attention when exploring the city.
It is impossible to be in the city and not visit the Meissen porcelain manufactory. The Meissen brand is a symbol of extraordinary skill. "White gold" - so called and called the first European porcelain, since 1710, produced in the castle of Albrechtsburg. The current porcelain manufactory makes it possible not only to enjoy the museum exposition, but also to observe the direct process of making porcelain products, while listening to a story about it in the native language (audioguide).
A visit to the monumental ensemble of Albrechtsburg Castle and the Cathedral of the XIII century will complement our excursion program.
Duration of the tour: 4.5-5.5 hours.
