Saxony Nature Reserve
Description:
Saxon Switzerland is a huge landscape park-reserve. It is a mecca for lovers of nature, tourism and natural beauty.
You can start our journey from one of the oldest and never conquered military fortress – Königstein.
Here in one place perfectly combine with each other history, architecture, the mystery of time and natural beauty.
A powerful mountain, resembling a huge stump, sheltered on its top, at an altitude of 247 m above the level of the Elbe River, this grandiose fortification. On the territory of the fortress you can see more than 50 various objects. This is the oldest preserved barracks in Germany, the oldest garrison church, an operating well of the XVI century, cut into the rock to a depth of 152 meters, casemates, arsenals, ancient taverns, etc. And also Königstein provides a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful views of the surroundings.
On the opposite coast of the Elbe from the fortress of Königstein is the favorite mountain peak of Saxon Switzerland - Bastai. It has panoramic viewing platforms, which reveal the beauty of the national reserve of Saxon Switzerland. There is also the famous stone bridge between the rocks, and an exotic stone fortress of the XV century on rocky peaks, and an amazing serpentine climb to Bastay, starting from the bank of the Elbe.
What you see and feel here will be remembered for a long time.
On the way back to Dresden, you can visit the famous brewery-restaurant, where you can offer your wide range of beer drinks and Saxon traditional dishes.
This day trip can also be made with the help of an ancient steamship, staying on which, along its leisurely route, you can appreciate the beauty of the tearing landscape of the Elbe valley.
