Frauen Kirche Church

Neumarkt, 01067 Dresden, Deutschland

Description:

Frauen Kirche is a beautiful Evangelical Lutheran church with a Baroque architectural ensemble.

This church is located in Dresden.

Frauen Kirche is one of the most famous cathedrals of the city. Initially, on the site of the cathedral there was a church of the same name, built in 1472-1539. The new church was built between 1726 and 1743 by architect Georg Behr.

During World War II, the Frauen Kirche building was completely destroyed. It was only in 1989 that activists of the Action-Frauenkirche movement began to fight for the restoration of the church. The foundation stone of the new Frauen Kirche was laid in 1994. After extensive restoration work in 2005, the cathedral was opened.
