Church of the Cross

An der Kreuzkirche 6, 01067 Dresden, Germany

Description:

The Church of the Cross is a Protestant temple of Dresden, located in the heart of the city, on the Old Market Square. This temple is the oldest temple in Dresden.

On the site of the temple in 1215, a Romanesque chapel was originally built, which was consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas. Later it was enlarged and placed in the temple of the fragments of the cross on which Jesus was crucified. In the XV century, the temple was rebuilt into a Gothic three-nave church.

During the Seven Years' War, the church was destroyed, after which it was restored, but in a classic style. Architect Gottlieb Hölzer built a bell tower 92 meters high.

Now in the Church of the Cross you can listen to organ concerts, which are held here weekly.
