Description:

One of the main decorations of the historical part of Dresden is the Palace Church, built in 1755. It took 20 years to build.

In 1945, during World War II, the church was almost completely destroyed. Restoration work began immediately after the end of the war, in 1946. Until 1971, the restoration of the organ, interior decoration, sculptural jewelry continued. In 1980, the church received the status of a cathedral.

The church was built in the high baroque style. The cathedral is distinguished by an 85-meter bell tower and a balustrade, which is decorated with 78 statues. Despite its appearance, the church is full of light and air. A luxurious addition to the interior of the cathedral is undoubtedly the organ made by the master Gottfried Zilberman. This is one of the last works of the famous Saxon organ builder. This magnificent instrument was created in 1750-1754.

It remains to be added that four cathedral crypts contain the remains of outstanding rulers of Saxony. And in the funeral urn rests the heart of Elector August the Strong.
