Kvekbrunnen Fountain (Living Source Fountain)
Hertha-Lindner-Strase 10, 01067 Dresden, Germany
Description:
The Kvekbrunnen Fountain (Living Source Fountain) is a small quadrangular pavilion almost 4 meters high, which is located above the mineral spring.
The front of the pavilion is decorated with an architectural relief, which depicts the coat of arms of the city. The top of the pavilion is crowned by the figure of a stork, which may represent longevity. This mineral spring is one of the oldest springs of the city, which was first documented in the XV century. The word Queck in translation from Old German means "life", "living", which literally characterizes the purpose of the source in the old days. It was believed that women here could heal from infertility.
The fountain was repeatedly modified, and during the Second World War it was badly destroyed, but in 1965 it was restored.
