Grand Garden
Description:
In 1676, Elector Johann George III ordered a representative garden in front of the city gates. In the center of the park is a palace built in 1678-1683. The prototype of the palace were Italian Renaissance villas and at the same time a country palace, as a new type of architecture that appeared in the 17th century in France. The park palace was designed for summer court festivities and was never residential.
Today the Big Garden with its huge squares is one of the most favorite places of rest of Dresden residents. Concerts are held in the palace, from time to time the park becomes a stage for festive balls and fireworks.
On the edge of the Great Garden are the Botanical Garden and the Zoological Garden, which are also places of large crowds of people. The Park Railway, a miniature road that has existed since 1950, offers a sightseeing tour of the Grand Garden several kilometers long.
The park is open daily for everyone, entrance is free.
