Dresden Botanical Garden
Herkulesallee, 01219 Dresden, Germany
Description:
The Dresden Botanical Garden, located in the German city of the same name, belongs to the Dresden Technical University. It has a long and sad history. The first garden on this site was founded in 1820 by the botanist Heinrich Reichenbach, who carefully preserved the entire collection, which by that time numbered about 7800 plants of different species, about 60 years, until his death. For almost 15 years the garden was in desolation and was reopened in 1893, but in 1945 during the bombing of the city it was thoroughly destroyed. The Dresden Botanical Garden has been operating since 1950.
Today, you can see about 10,000 species of plants located in geographical sections, among which many are rare. Thanks to proper care in the garden, such plants as ivolous oak, gamamelis, magnolia feel great. In 5 greenhouses with a total area of about 1000 square meters, about 3000 species of tropical plants are grown: pineapples, Arabica coffee, many different succulents, several dozen varieties of orchids and predator plants.
