National Park Saxon Switzerland
Dresdner Straß e 2b, 01814 Bad Schandau, Germany
Description:
Saxon Switzerland is a picturesque national park located in Saxony, Germany. The foundation of this national park was laid in 1956. Here, on an area equal to 93 square kilometers, a unique mountain landscape stretches, its key element is the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the bizarre outlines of which have been formed over millions of years.
The complex sandstone landscape makes a strong impression on observers and is unique to Central Europe. Here in abundance there are bizarre heaps of rocks, narrow valleys, table mountains and gorges. On the territory of the national park live rare species of animals and birds, for example, owl, otter and sleepy-regiment, as there grow rare species of ferns, lichens and mosses.
Mountaineering excursions are organized here, and those who wish can climb the steep cliffs of the national park with the help of climbing equipment or climb the hills on foot. The picturesque landscapes of the national park can also be explored from the water – on a boat with oars or during a trip on one of the many ships.
