Augustus Bruke Bridge

Augustusbrucke, 01097 Dresden, Germany

Description:

Augustus Bruecke is one of the oldest bridges in Dresden.

The first wooden bridge that appeared on this site was built in 1070. The stone bridge was built here in the XIII century. In the XVIII century, due to the increase in trade between the Czech Republic and Northern Germany, the importance of the bridge increased dramatically. Then the bridge was rebuilt by decree of Augustus the Strong, in whose honor it was later named.

At the beginning of the XX century, urgent reconstruction of the bridge was required to increase its capacity, and in 1907-1910 the existing bridge was built. Augustus Bruquet connects the old and new parts of the city. Traffic of trams and vehicles is carried out on the bridge.
