Tour to Freiberg
Description:
Traveling in Saxony, do not forget, dear tourists, to visit the city of Freiberg, where M. V. Lomonosov lived and studied - the founder of Russian modern science and D. I. Vinogradov - the founder of the production of Russian porcelain.
Freiberg, 850, is one of the most beautiful cities in Saxony. It impresses its guests with preserved medieval architecture, monuments of history and art, as well as its ancient shopping streets.
The historic center of the city is under state protection.
The foundation of the city (XII century), its development and history are inextricably linked with the discovery and development of the mining industry, especially the mining of silver ore. For several centuries, the city was one of the main financial sources of the Wettins. Freiberg is also known as the Silver City. During the walking tour, you can visit the largest and oldest mine in Europe of the Freiberg silver mine Reiche Zeche and visit the ground at a depth of 150 meters. Residents of the city still cherish the mining traditions. On the day of the city (in June) and on Christmas there is a traditional parade of miners.
Not only the mine "silver" veins can surprise tourists, but also the splendor of the world's most beautiful and rare minerals, precious stones collected in the new halls of the Terra Mineralia Museum (more than 3,500 exhibits), which is located in Friedenstein Castle.
One of the most significant attractions, because of which it is worth visiting Freiberg, is the Protestant Cathedral of St. Mary - a work of art and architecture of international level. The post-Romanesque portal of the cathedral, called the Golden Gate, is a real masterpiece of German art of the XIII century. The cathedral is also famous for its two organs – the creation of the world-famous master organist Gottfried Silberman and an impressive tulip-shaped pulpit.
As a tour guide to Dresden and its surroundings, I am sure that after visiting Freiberg, you will return to this wonderful city.
