Kopferbrunnen Fountain

Gaffenberg 1, Heilbronn, Germany

Description:

The Koepferbrunnen Fountain-Gossip originates from the eponymous Köpfer Creek in the eastern part of Heilbronn, near which, according to legend, the execution of the city bandit Doderer and Junker Fite Imlin took place in 1814. Although this stream was known in the Middle Ages, when monks from the Carmelite monastery drew water from here. At the same time, a chapel was equipped here, which today serves as a gazebo and at the same time a place of life-giving coolness in hot weather. In the past, instead of a gazebo, there was a cell of a hermit monk here.

Parts of the architectural ensemble of the fountain-gazebo belong to different eras. The entrance to it is decorated with lines from a poem by Virgil dated 493 - "The happiness of the gods is that they know a weathery place in the forest." The integrity of the composition is complemented by stone bridges built in 1898 and 1904, a music pavilion, an artificial pond, stone benches and tables.
