FORTRESS EHRENBRAITSTEIN N

Description:

On the banks of the Rhine is the ancient fortress of Ehrenbreitstein (German Ehrenbreitstein), 118 meters above the city. This is one of the largest fortresses in Europe, listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

By the beginning of the XIX century, the old fortress building was almost completely rebuilt, and before the invention of modern heavy artillery, it was one of the most powerful fortifications in Europe. However, the first fortifications appeared here around the year 1000. From the top of the hill offers a magnificent view of the city of Koblenz, the nearby vineyards and the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers.
