Caesar's finger monument
Kastorstra ß e, 56068 Koblenz, Germany
Description:
The monument “Caesar’s finger”, installed in the German city of Koblenz, is a rather unusual sculpture, the analogue of which is also installed in Paris.
In ancient Rome, raising Caesar’s thumb meant the end of the struggle, and lowering it down meant the death sentence to the gladiator.
The sculpture in Koblenz reaches a height of 1.5 meters, while her “older sister” in Paris is 12 meters long. The monument was completed by sculptor Caesar Baldaccini in 1965. Now this sculpture adorns Koblenz Square, attracting many curious tourists.
The monument is located near the Cathedral of St. Castor and next to the "German Lord's House", which previously belonged to the Teutonic Order.
