The Moselle River in Koblenz

Koblenz, Germany

Description:

The Moselle River is the navigable left tributary of the Rhine. The huge river flows on the territory of three states at once: Germany, France and Luxembourg. Its length is more than five hundred kilometers with a total basin area of 28,262 square kilometers.

Moselle flows into the Rhine in Koblenz, forming a kind of "German corner" at the confluence. The water is fed by several tributaries and canals. The river is rough and rapid in some places, so hydroelectric power stations and locks are located on the Mosel.

The river most of its way flows through a picturesque valley, replete with delightful landscapes and vineyards, where the famous Riesling grape variety grows. By the way, the Moselle Valley is a very popular tourist attraction.
