Eltz Castle
Description:
Elz Castle, located in a forest near Koblenz, has never been captured and destroyed and is therefore the most beautiful and preserved monument in Germany, which has its owner.
The fortress was built in the XII century on a rock 70 meters high. In the seventeenth century, most of the castles located in the Rhine valley were destroyed. The fortress of Elz remained unharmed thanks to its owner Anton Elz-Juttingensky, who had a high officer rank in the army.
The castle is now owned by the 33rd generation Eltz family. The current owner lives in Frankfurt am Main, and he opened his castle to the public. By carefully preserving and restoring it, he will pass it on to the 34th generation.
Valuable in the castle is the treasury, which contains about 500 works of art (jewelry and various curious objects), dating from the XII-XIX centuries.
