Danube Swab Museum
Schillerstrase 1/2, Ulm, Germany
About the company:
The Danube Swab Museum, located in the German city of Ulm, occupies an ancient three-storey building in the classical style, with side towers, on the banks of the Danube River. It was opened in 2000. The expositions of the museum, which cover an area of about one and a half thousand square meters, acquaint visitors with the history of the Danube Swabs - the German-speaking population that previously lived in the Hungarian Kingdom, and in the early XVIII century migrated to Germany.
In the 27 halls of the museum, you can see exhibits telling about the difficult fate of the millions of diaspora, about repressions, resettlements and almost its complete destruction during the Second World War. Employees of the museum found documents, photographs, personal belongings of the Danube Swabs, which can be traced the development of their life and culture, which influenced other German nationalities.
The main attraction of the Museum of the Danube Swabs is their symbol: a model of the so-called Ulm ship - a house on the water, on which the Swabs went on a journey to a new life. On the basis of the museum, various thematic temporary exhibitions, scientific conferences and seminars are held.
Particularly popular among local residents and tourists are the ethno-festivals held by the museum, which attract representatives of the Swab diaspora from around the world.
