The Temple of the Virgin of Strangers
Description:
If you come to the Greek island of Corfu, be sure to visit the Church of the Virgin of Strangers. This shrine belongs to the Ottoman period. Unfortunately, there is no information about the exact date of construction of the temple. It is only known that the construction took place thanks to the forces and means of pilgrims from the mainland who moved to the island. Until now, there is a work of the 18th century, owned by Kutuzis, called “Heaven”. The image of the Tree of Jesse represents the images of the prophets. Particular attention is drawn to the gilded iconostasis installed inside the temple, which is considered one of the most beautiful and rich in the country. In the church there is also a miraculous icon of the Virgin. Every year millions of pilgrims come to this place. You can get from the mainland by plane or ferry. The church can be reached by taxi or rented car.
