Corfu

Mouse Island of Pontikonisi

Paleopolis, Kerkira 49100, Greece

Description:

Pontikonisi is a small, incredibly picturesque island, which is one of the symbols of Corfu.

The island of Pontikonisi is located near Kanoni. According to legend, the island was once the ship of Odysseus, but an angry Poseidon turned it into stone. This beautiful island is completely covered with greenery, and the only building on it is the ancient monastery of Pantocrator.

The name Pontikonisi means “Mouse Island”. The island is so named because of its tiny size. There is also a version that the name was due to the fact that the winding white path leading to the Monastery of Pantocrator resembles a mouse tail.
