The Old Fortress of Paleo Frurio
Description:
The old fortress of Paleo Frurio is an old Venetian fortress dating from the XVIII century.
It was built on an artificial island with defensive structures around the perimeter. The fort was rebuilt many times and during its long life saw many shootings and battles. The last contribution to the architecture of the fortress was made by the British, who built in 1840 a neoclassical temple of St. George with Doric columns right in the center of the fortress. The British not only built buildings, but also made architectural additions to the already built objects.
Inside the fortress, everything has been restored, so the building is used for cultural events (concerts, sound and light shows). Unfortunately, many temples and buildings of the fort have not survived to this day, including the Palace of the Venetian ruler.
