Liston Street
Description:
Liston Street is the central street of Kerkyra, there is no transport on it, so it is an ideal place for walking. Tourists are attracted by its architecture. Italian-French buildings are different from other parts of the city. The history of the street is connected with the name of the French engineer de Lesseps, who in the early 19th century decided to create a street for selected citizens. According to one version, the name is connected with this decision: the elected citizens who had the right to walk here, were listed in a special List. Although there is another version: the street is flat and straight (in Italian, the word “leaf” means “straight”). Liston is modeled after the rue de Rivoli in Paris. House-galleries, stone paved paths, subdued lighting of Venetian lanterns create a unique aristocratic atmosphere. Here are expensive boutiques, restaurants, branded shops, souvenir shops. At the end of the street is a cricket field. It is located in the city center, which can be reached on foot or by public transport.
