Shell museum

Benitses Corfu, Benitses, Greece

About the company:

One of the main attractions of the island of Corfu is the amazing Seashell Museum, located in the village of Benitses. Its exposition presents models and stuffed sea creatures – sharks, crocodiles and tiny shells. The museum was created on the initiative of collector and diver Napoleon Segais, who returned to his homeland in 1989 after 20 years of living in Australia. Diving in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, he collected a huge collection of fossils and sea shells. It is one of the largest and most complete in Europe. Particularly popular are stuffed fish, crabs, lobsters, snakes of the Pacific and Indian oceans and sea urchins. The rarest and most expensive shells are estimated at $22,000.

The museum is allowed to make photo and video shooting, you will have to inspect the exposition yourself, since there is no guide at the institution. But this is not a problem, as almost all the exhibits are signed. The Marine Shell Museum operates: from June to September - from 9.00 to 20.00, in October - from 10.00 to 18.00 and in May - from 10.00 to 18.00. Entrance to the institution is 10 euros.
