Orthodox shrines of Corfu
Description:
The blessed island of Corfu. About 800 Orthodox churches and 20 active monasteries are concentrated on 590 square kilometers - 10 women's and 10 men's. Every year, more than a million pilgrims from all over the world come to the island to restore spiritual balance and worship the relics of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt, the numerous miraculous icons and particles of the relics of Saints that have been on the island for centuries.
It takes more than one day to visit the main monasteries and temples. I offer an option that will help to get acquainted not only with the main spiritual centers of the island, but also allow you to enjoy the magnificent views and natural beauty of the island.
Orthodox shrines of the island.
On this trip, we will try to visit not only the monasteries and temples of the central part of the island, but also to stop at the most popular observation decks, the view from which remains in memory for a long time.
During this day we will visit the convent of St. Paraskeva of Rome, where for 5 centuries her right hand and miraculous icon are kept, the observation deck in the village of Pelekas is an observation post of the last Kaiser of Germany Wilhelm II. Next, we will climb to the height of a bird's flight, and pass through one of the most picturesque observation platforms of the island of Bella Vista, from where you can see the most beautiful and popular area of Paleokastritsa, with picturesque bays and turquoise water, go down to the foot of the uncriminal and magnificently preserved fortress of Angelokastro, and along the mountain range go to the northern part of the island to the Monastery (sychastyrator) of the Almighty Kamarel, a women's monastery located in an olive monastery. The monastery is known for its production of olive oil and monastery wine, as well as a spring with holy water.
Then our journey takes us back to the central part of the island. We will visit the Monastery of the Virgin Kassopitra, where the miraculous icon of the Mother of God is stored, and the rector of which lived for several years on Mount Athos in the fraternal community with Svyatogorsk Paisius, and from where he brought many particles of Holy Relics, a piece of shirt and a cross of St. Paisius. Next, we will visit the monastery of the Icon of Vlacherna Mother of God with a miraculous icon, an observation deck overlooking the island. Pontikonisi and the runway of the airport are the visiting cards of the island, and, having had a little rest and if possible a snack, we will go to the main revered temple on the island to St. Spyridon, where, if it is the will of God and St. Spyridon, we will be able to attach to his incorrupt relics, get a “filahto” – a piece of a shoe, leave notes and put candles. If you wish, you can stay for the evening service, or after a short walk through the historic part of the city and purchase sovereigns, we will finish our trip and go back to the hotel.
