Extensive tour of Batumi and surroundings
Description:
Batumi Survey – Gonio Fortress – Mahunzeti Waterfalls – Mirveti
Batumi is a new city compared to the entire history of our country. But the foundations of this place go far in time immemorial. Dock Batus - so called the place of today's port of Batumi, which in the 19th century became Porto Franco and laid the foundation of a commercial port city, for which there were no small battles.
Batumi today is a pearl on the Black Sea, a tourist port city, which is not surprising with its architectural masterpieces with a history of 200 years. How it all began or how everything is developing today, who was the founder and what this city breathed throughout its 200-year history, you will learn on a tour of our local guide Elena (Madelena). Every house, every street has preserved the names of those who invested their soul in the revival of this port settlement in the 19th century.
In the 21st century, the development of the city continued, and from the smallest cities in terms of population, it came in second place after Tbilisi. It is not uncommon to mention that Batumi is the capital of western Georgia, but it is not. The historical and cultural capital of Western Georgia or Colchis (Egrisi) is still Kutaisi.
After visiting all the historical and modern sights of the city of Batumi and walking, we will show you where the ancient Greeks, and then Colchi, had a developed city and settlement. We call this place Gonio Fortress. This fortress has preserved unique evidence of an advanced civilization for 3,000 years. It was conquered in different periods repeatedly and in the walls can be distinguished and different periods of the conquerors, fortification and domestic architectural foundations, but most importantly, a well-preserved water supply and sewerage system, which is at least 2600 years old. This place is also interesting for lovers of religious stories - here is the first burial of the Apostle Matthew. He and the Apostle Andrew the First-Called were sent by the Virgin in Georgia on a missionary journey. Georgia is the first parish of the Virgin.
After diving into the depths of history, we will continue our way to the high-mountain Adjara, where we will visit the confluence of two contras rivers: Chorokhi and Adjaristskali; the beautiful village of Mirveti with its incredibly beautiful Mirveti waterfall and the arch bridge. Here you can ride a boat if you want and drown in the greenery of the Adjara jungle. Also, the Mahunzeti waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls of the area.
