Every spring, billions of birds fly to nesting sites, and in autumn to wintering sites. Day and night, in flocks and one by one, they reach uncontrollably north or south. Year after year, century after century, millennia. And even millions of years ago, when there were no humans on Earth and no one to admire the greatness of what was happening, birds were already making their migrations. Why? The apparent simplicity of the question hides many mysteries, over which scientists around the world still puzzle.

Migratory birds avoid flying over the surface of the water or over high mountains, as there are no warm air flows. In such air currents, birds can fly for miles without flapping their wings, thereby saving energy.

Batumi lies between the sea and the mountains and is an ideal place for a bird’s “air corridor”. Thus, it turns out that in spring and autumn, birds involuntarily gather in the same segment. In the airspace of Batumi you can see rare and diverse birds, which is almost impossible elsewhere. Batumi funnel, along with the Bosporus, Gibraltar and Messina-Sicily, is among the four most important points in Europe.

On this tour we will visit two main observation decks in the vicinity of Batumi. I will tell you about those birds that will fly over us and the most interesting stories about bird migration and birdwatching. You will see the magnificent Adjarian subtropics.

Observing wildlife is a leisurely affair. Therefore, between visits to different observation decks, you will find a small picnic on a charming clearing with beautiful views of the sea, mountains and bird flocks, of course.
