Living math. Nature. The sea. Architecture

Description:

Episodes from the life of an experimenter

Wherever we are, but especially looking into the vast distance of the blue sea or into the bottomless depths of the starry sky, we involuntarily cringe, feeling how vast and, despite the successes of science and technology, incomprehensible the world that surrounds us. Today we will talk about how tides occur, where the rainbow ends, why the sky is blue, how you can hear the sea in a sea shell, and whether all the mysteries of nature already have clues or some are just waiting for researchers.

As a child, I had two favorite subjects in school: mathematics and biology. I realized pretty quickly that mathematics, on the one hand, is very romantic. For example, it is subject to all poets, composers and artists. On the other hand, mathematics is an ordinary miracle. The magic of numbers is, for example, the basis of not only architecture, calendar, history, but also anatomy. And concepts such as the Golden Ratio, Fibonacci numbers, fractals help describe the rose bud, the sea coast line, the snowflake and the spiral staircase.

This tour takes place as a walk along Batumi Boulevard. Between math games and experiments, I'll talk about how mathematics was born and how numbers affect the man-made and non-man-made world. In the Japanese garden, we will talk about how plants are born and die, whether they can breathe, feel stress and interact with each other. Consider the new buildings on the boulevard and talk about how architects learn from wildlife.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions, however, without a 100% guarantee to get an answer to them = But this walk will definitely awaken a healthy curiosity and help a fresh look at the familiar environment.
