Bodbe Monastery – Signaghi – Alazan Valley
Description:
Bodbe Monastery is one of the most beautiful visited places in the Kakheti region. Here the relics of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nino, who in the IV century brought Christianity to Georgia on behalf of the Virgin, are buried. The place got its name from the village located near the monastery - the village of Bodbe. Here at the end of his missionary journey came St. Nino found her last place of residence. Next to her settled women, which gave the beginning of the first convent on the site. When St. Nino came here, there was a big problem with the water, and with prayers she knocked out a spring at the foot of the mountain on which today the monastery complex is located. Here is the burial of the holy relics. Above her grave in the IV century AD, King Mirian, the first Christian king of Georgia, erected the church of St. George. The original temple has not survived, in the 17th century it was rebuilt, traces of restoration and the 19th century are visible.
From the courtyard of the monastery complex there is a breathtaking view of the Alazan valley. Here Parish Ilya II began the construction of a new cathedral, which will be painted with mosaics. It is a place of peace, tranquility and great spirituality.
Not far from the monastery is a city called Signagi. Translation means “impregnable wall”. This wall was built in the 17th century from the Dagestan invasions. To hide in its walls women, children and the elderly. The wall and its towers offer a beautiful panorama of almost the entire Alazan valley. This wall is located on two dogs in 4300 m in circumference. Beautiful views and a colorful town that began to emerge here in the 18th century will not leave you indifferent. Signaghi was restored in 2006 and called it the city of love. Why? There is a wedding building that works 24/7. Anyone who wishes to submit an application in advance has the right to legally sign.
