Mtskheta – Gori – Uplistskhe: A Journey from Paganism to Orthodoxy

This excursion is an opportunity in one day to touch the most different eras of Georgia: from paganism and the birth of Christianity, to Soviet history and the ancient city carved into the rock.

What awaits you:

Mtskheta is the spiritual capital of Georgia. Today it is called Georgian Jerusalem: it is here that St. Nino brought Christianity, here the Heaton of the Lord is kept and the main Orthodox shrines of the country are erected.

• The monastery of Jvari (VI century), standing on top of Mount Armazi - with a panorama of the confluence of the rivers Kura and Aragvi, sung by Lermontov.

• Svetitskhoveli Cathedral is the main temple of Georgia, the burial place of kings and relics.

Gori is an ancient city founded during the Bronze Age, but is known primarily as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin.

• We will visit the Stalin Museum, where his personal belongings, gifts, photographs, his parental home and the famous armored car on which he traveled to the Yalta Conference are preserved.

Uplistsikhe is a cave city on the Silk Road. One of the oldest settlements on the territory of Georgia, carved directly into the sandy rock. In pagan times, Uplistsikhe was a center of worship, and later became an important point of the Great Silk Road. Here are preserved cave temples, wine pressures, streets and secret passages that come to life in the imagination, you just step inside.
