Svetitskhoveli Cathedral
Description:
Georgia is famous for its religious Orthodox churches. One of them is the temple of Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta (from Georgian it is translated as “Life-giving pillar”).
The name of the cathedral is associated with the Heaton of Jesus Christ. According to legend, a huge Lebanese cedar grew at the burial site of the chiton, and a column carved from this tree (the Life-giving pillar) myrrhaged, healing the sick. The grand temple is full of light. The facade with stone carvings and windows decorated with carved ornaments amazes with its beauty. Fragments of ancient frescoes depict legendary scenes about the chiton of the Lord.
You can get to the cathedral from Tbilisi from Didube metro station to Mtskheta.
