Ananuri Fortress

Located 70 kilometers north of Tbilisi

Description:

Ananuri fortress is a stone castle, the construction of which dates, according to some sources, to the beginning of the 14th century. The fortress was built gradually, and its individual structures were erected closer to the 20th century. Over time, the fortress lost its original appearance, its walls were destroyed, and the restoration was carried out late. Ananuri Fortress is included in the UNESCO Heritage List.

Throughout its existence, the fortress served as a military camp in different periods of time.

The fortress is visited daily by many tourists who want to feel the spirit of antiquity and gloomy atmosphere. To get to the Ananuri fortress, you need to get to the city of Ananuri from Tbilisi by car or public transport. The famous Georgian Military Road leads to the fortress.
