Catholic Epiphany

Description:

Three Magi Kings

The three holy kings are the holy Magi Balthasar, Melchior and Caspar, who came to worship the newborn Jesus. According to Matthew, they came from the east to Jerusalem because they saw the star of Jesus. In Jerusalem they were received by King Herod, who wanted to know from them the birthplace of Jesus in order to kill him. When the magicians found Jesus, they gave him incense, gold, and myrrh.

Then God told them not to return to Herod, but to go to their country in another way. The three Magi are representatives of the pagan peoples whom God called into his kingdom, revealing to them the birth of the Savior.

After his death, the remains of the three Magi were transferred to Constantinople, after they were found by the mother of Constantine I the Great, St. Helena, from there to Milan and finally to Cologne, where they remain to this day.

Their Remembrance Day is January 6, one of the largest Catholic holidays - Epiphany. In many Catholic countries it is a day off, including Croatia.
