The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

This is due to the events of 1715. Then the Turks besieged the Dalmatian town of Xin in Croatia. Shortly before, the Turks had lost Xin and were determined not only to regain it, but also to occupy Vienna, endangering all of Christian Europe. The frightened people of Xin, realizing their powerlessness before the numerous and powerful enemy, turned with prayers for help to the Sin Mother of God.
Throughout the night of August 14, many believers prayed in front of the miraculous icon called “The Merciful Mother of God.” On the morning of August 15, on the Dormition of the Virgin, the face of the Mother of God appeared in heaven. The Turks became ill and could no longer cross the Cetinu River to Sin. Residents believed that the Turkish attack was repulsed solely due to the intervention of the Heavenly Defender. The Turks fled and never returned to Xin.
In gratitude for their protection, the Croats loved the Virgin even more and began to venerate her even more. Considering the miraculous victory over the Turks her merit, the Croats showered her miraculous face with gold gifts and other jewels. Then in Sin, in honor of the Virgin, a large church was erected, which became the largest temple of St. John. Virgin Mary throughout Dalmatia.
