Brijuna National Park

Veli Brijuni, 52214, Veli Brijun, Croatia

Description:

Briuna National Park is a fourteen island and reef located near the town of Pula. The largest of them - the Great Brium - covers an area of 5.7 square kilometers. Subtropical vegetation is common throughout the islands.

During its history, the Briuns have changed many hosts. The first people settled these places as early as 3000 years BC. The greatest footprint on the islands was left by the Romans, Byzantines and Celts - after them palaces, temples and churches were preserved. The biggest changes awaited Briuna in 1893, when the islands were bought by Paul Kupelwiser. The magnate created a summer resort on the islands, which for a long time invariably attracted wealthy customers. After World War II, the personal residence of Josip Broz Tito was located on the islands. Since October 1983, the Brijuna Islands have been a national park.
